Fee for service is the fundamental of the Department of Motor Vehicles. The menu includes registrations for cars, boats, ATVs, personal watercraft, tractor-trailers and driver's licensing, as well as the collection of large sums of sales tax dollars.
If Erie County cannot provide these essential services to the population, why not outsource the entire operation? This would be a win-win answer to the pathetic inconvenience residents are now experiencing. Private enterprise could solve this fiasco with little fanfare.
But there is one hurdle. County officials would need to focus on serving the overtaxed and underserved taxpayers. Every other county in this state seems to be coping with providing these services efficiently. I suspect the reason Erie County refuses to do so is that officials wish to punish the residents for demanding change to a very corrupt government.
Politicians have forever spoken of job creation at every level of government. Does it matter if hundreds are created at the DMV?
