Brother Brendan of the Brothers of Mercy in Clarence, a registered nurse and accountant, died Tuesday in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 74.
Born George Croston in Rochester, he became a registered nurse in 1958 at Mercy Hospital, then earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Rockhurst College in Kansas City.
He entered the Brothers of Mercy of Montabaur in 1953 and professed his final vows in 1961.
Brother Brendan worked as a nurse and accountant in Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Buffalo, serving as superior at St. Vincent Home in Oklahoma City. He also worked for the Diocese of Gallup, N.M.
Surviving are three sisters, Nora Mae Ehrhardt and Judith Bubel, both of Rochester, and Eileen Hahn of New Albany, Ind.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Chapel of the Brothers of Mercy, 4520 Ransom Road, Clarence. Burial will be in Clarence Fillmore Cemetery.
