COLLEGES GET $10 MILLION IN MATCHING GRANTS

State Sen. Dale M. Volker, R-Depew, announced that more than $10 million in capital matching grants for independent Western New York colleges and universities have been included in the 2005-06 state budget.

The grants are awarded according a formula based on enrollment and TAP spending. Schools are required to raise $3 in nonstate funds for each dollar received under the program. Projects must relate to economic development, high-technology, academic facilities, or urban renewal or historic preservation.

The grants include: Alfred University, $842,192; Canisius College, $1,912,541; Daemen College, $997,002; D'Youville College, $803,641; Hilbert College, $573,878; Houghton College, $704,479; Medaille College, $959,091; Niagara University, $1,468,064; St. Bonaventure University, $1,091,052; Trocaire College, $576,316; and Villa Maria College, $357,619.
