The annual program to flush water mains will be begin Tuesday in Newstead, Lancaster, Hamburg and Lackawanna.
The Erie County Water Authority said the preventive-maintenance procedure improves water quality and delivery by flushing sediments from dead-end sections of water mains. Hydrants will be opened Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until all sediments have been removed.
Customers may temporarily see low pressure and discolored water. If discoloration occurs, customers should run the cold water tap at the lowest point of their residence or business for a few minutes, until the water runs clear.
Clothing should not be laundered in discolored water.
