Sister Mary Theonilia Tokarczyk of Buffalo, 93, a Felician sister for 76 years, died Thursday in the Felician Sisters Health and Wellness Center in Buffalo after a long illness.
Born Michaeline Tokarczyk in North Tonawanda, Sister Theonilia graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy and Mount St. Joseph's Teacher College, now known as Medaille College.
She was a full-time teacher in a number of Catholic schools for 49 years, 39 in the diocese of Buffalo and 10 in the dioceses of Syracuse and Ogdensburg. At one point, she also was principal at St. Hedwig's School in Dunkirk.
Sister Theonilia spent nine years as administrator and teacher at Infant Jesus Day Care Center in Perry before returning to St. Hedwig's Convent in Dunkirk as a home aide in 1988.
She became a member of the Provincial House convent in 1994, and then a patient at the Villa Maria Infirmary, now known as the Felician Sisters Health and Wellness Center, four years ago.
Monsignor Matthew Kopacz, Sister Theonilia's nephew, will officiate at a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Villa Maria Convent Chapel, 600 Doat St. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
