Carmela E. "Carol" Furey, an Orchard Park homemaker, died unexpectedly Monday in Mercy Hospital. She was 69.
Born in Passaic, N.J., the former Carmela Vetri went to secretarial school in New Jersey, where she graduated as class valedictorian.
She moved to Orchard Park in 1973 with her husband, Jack, a now-retired Chemical Bank executive, when that institution opened its first branches in the Buffalo area. The couple was married for 47 years.
While she worked briefly as a secretary, Mrs. Furey devoted herself to her husband and her children.
In addition to her husband, survivors include five sons, Jim of Indianapolis, Jack of Orchard Park, Chris of Phoenix, Patrick of Hamburg, and Matthew of Baltimore; two brothers, Dominick of Eugene, Ore., and Wally of Titusville, N.J.; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
