While I agree that everything Joel Giambra has done as county executive has not been perfect, I strongly disagree with Rod Watson's assertion that "no other county faces the calamity we're dealing with because other counties prudently raised revenues to deal with reality."
I have lived in this area for over 30 years, and have seen a continual downward spiral in the overall business climate. This has happened because we are one of the highest taxed areas of the country.
For us to continue to raise revenues to paper over our leaders' inability to make the hard decisions that will allow us to compete with the rest of the country is long-term folly.
Hopefully the short-term pain that we are suffering now will lead to the basic restructuring of programs and services necessary to ensure a bright future for everyone in this region.
