The Rochester Americans lost a game but gained a Calder Cup playoff opponent on Wednesday night.

Jason Pominville and Daniel Paille scored for the Amerks in a 5-2 loss to St. John's in the American Hockey League.

The Hamilton Bulldogs, meanwhile, secured the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division with a 4-3 victory over the Syracuse Crunch. The Amerks will host Hamilton at 7:05 p.m. April 20 in the Blue Cross Arena, for Game One of a seven-game division semifinal.

The series is a rematch of the 2004 North Division finals, won by Rochester in four games. The two teams will play Friday night in Copps Coliseum in a playoff preview.
