Ruth A. Steinwachs of Cheektowaga, who had worked for Otis Elevator, died Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga. She was 83.
Born Ruth Betz in Buffalo, she graduated from Kensington High School and went to work at Otis as a comptometer operator. During World War II she worked at Curtiss-Wright Aircraft.
She was a 40-year member of the choir at Blessed Trinity Church.
She moved to Florida in the 1980s and returned here in 2003.
Mrs. Steinwachs enjoyed knitting, crocheting and intricate needlepoint.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Clayton A.; a daughter, Ann Manganello of West Seneca; four sons, the Rev. David of St. Leo's Abbey, Fla., Thomas of Thousand Palms, Calif., Carl of Woodland, Wash., and Joseph of Williamsville; five sisters, Marion Eggers of Santa Cruz, Calif., Jane Rofe of West Seneca, Eleanor Steinwachs of Kissimmee, Fla., Gladys Anderson of Winton, Calif., and Janet Barlow of Zephyrhills, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by her son, Rev. David, at 10 a.m. Thursday in Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 317 Leroy Ave. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
