Statistics from a 1997 National Health Interview Survey show that older Americans tend to shun exercise:
51 percent of those 65 to 74 said they had no leisure time physical activity.
65 percent of those 75 and older had none.
16 percent of those 65 to 74 years old exercised for half an hour five times a week.
12 percent of those 75 and older did.
An estimated 300,000 deaths a year are attributed sedentary, exercise-free living.
