I noticed the article on the odd-shaped hockey net that the Sabres are interested in proposing as a change for the NHL. Let me just say this to the players and owners: gimmick.

Keep parabolic formulas out of net manufacturing. Just reduce the width of the mattresses the goalies are wearing, push the net closer to the back board like it used to be to clear out the campers in back of the net and force play in front of the net, do whatever you want to with the red line, and while you are at it, recognize that hockey isn't on the financial scale of a major sport.

Put your greed on the shelf and just split up the giant pile of money in an equitable way, no more whiners, and play 2006.
