A Collins Center man remained hospitalized with serious injuries Saturday, one day after he went off a cliff and fell into Zoar Valley, according to state police.
Phillip O'Neil, 41, fell at least 40 feet when he went over the edge of a cliff on Point Peter Road in this Cattaraugus County town Friday afternoon, state police in the Collins barracks said.
Two youths playing nearby heard a man calling for help, went home and got someone to call 911. A Gowanda Ambulance crew rescued O'Neil, and he was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center.
O'Neil suffered a broken femur and other internal injuries, and as of Saturday afternoon he remained in ECMC's intensive care unit, state police said.
This is not the first time state police have responded to falls from the same location. In August 2004, a 20-year-old East Randolph woman died after falling 150 to 200 feet into Zoar Valley from Point Peter Road.
