COLD MARCH ENDS ON A HIGH NOTE

March ended mild, with a 68 degree high on the 31st, but otherwise it was a colder and drier month than usual.

The average temperature of 29.4 degrees was about five degrees colder than normal, enough to make this March the coldest in nine years and the sixth coldest in the 62-year airport record.

Precipitation totaled just 1.38 inches, well below the normal of 2.99 inches. Most of the precipitation fell as snow: the monthly total was 17.5 inches, half of which fell during the first two days of the month.
