Wednesday was the first day of the spring recruiting period for college basketball, and Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim spent the afternoon at Niagara Falls High School with Paul Harris.

Harris, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound standout who helped the Wolverines to the state Federation championship this season, met with Boeheim and Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins during Falls' open gym but did not verbally commit to the Orange.

Harris plans to attend prep school next year before entering college for 2006-07. Syracuse is considered the front-runner in the recruiting race. Hopkins attended several Falls games this season, during which Harris averaged 19.7 points, 12.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists as the Wolverines went 28-1.

Harris was named the 2004 Buffalo News Player of the Year; this year's Player of the Year and All-Western New York team will be announced in Saturday's editions.
