An upcoming concert by singers and musicians from Poland and Western New York brings together two cultures.
"Sharing the Music" will include five performers from Poland -- including an operatic soprano who received popular acclaim in Buffalo last year -- and four from Western New York.
The concert is Sunday in the Villa Maria College auditorium in Cheektowaga. The program is presented by the group Buffalo-Rzeszow Sister Cities.
Featured among the performers will be Ewa Lewandowska, from Bydgoszcz, Poland, who performed at the first concert of this kind last year, organizer George Miecyjak said.
Also coming from Poland for the concert are: Karina Kalczynska, who sings popular songs as well as church music; Pawel Staszczyszyn, a young pianist; and two sisters, Kasha and Anna Karkowska, a pianist and violinist who have studied at Juilliard.
The performers from the Buffalo area are Dr. Thomas Witakowski, director of the Chopin Singing Society; Michelle Murphy DeBruyn, a member of the Buffalo State College faculty; Charles Czarnecki, a pianist; and Brittany Mruczek, a 15-year-old soprano from Notre Dame High School in Batavia.
Tickets are $18 in advance, $25 at the door. Call 683-1776 or go online to www.lancopera.org.
