Matt Mardeusz singled home two runs in the top of the 14th inning to give visiting St. Bonaventure a 6-4 victory over Richmond on Sunday in the second game of an Atlantic 10 Conference baseball doubleheader. Craig King had four hits for the Bonnies. In the opener, Ben Zeskind had three hits, including a two-run homer, to lead UR (14-12, 7-2) over Bona, 4-2. The Bonnies (11-8, 2-4) won two of the three games in the weekend series.
Sophomore right-hander Bobby Blevins of LeMoyne pitched the distance in a 4-2 win over Niagara in Syracuse as the Dolphins (8-8, 4-0) stretched their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference winning streak to 11 games going back to 2004. Mike Alati and Mike Medici each had two hits for Niagara (3-17, 1-3). The teams will play a doubleheader today.
WOMEN'S CREW: Three crews from the University at Buffalo won 2-kilometer races on the Charles River in Boston.
UB's second varsity eight with Chandra Hazey at the stroke oar outrowed Rhode Island, while the novice eight defeated Rhode Island and MIT. UB's lightweight eight triumphed over two boats from Radcliffe College.
UB's varsity eight was second to Rhode Island but finished more than seven seconds ahead of MIT.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Mariam Al-Shikarchy, at No. 1 singles, remained undefeated in dual play by defeating Diana Webb in two love sets as Niagara (8-7, 4-0) avenged its only Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss from a year ago with a 6-1 victory at Fairfield.
MEN'S TENNIS: Niagara lost at Fairfield, 4-3. Walter Garcia at No. 1 and Alex Abji at No. 4 were singles winners for the Purple Eagles.
