A police officer was arrested for allegedly trying to distribute pornographic photographs to minors over the Internet, officials said Saturday.
Michael Costello, 39, an officer in the 114th Precinct in Queens, was arrested in an online sting operation by the NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau. He had offered to send the photos to investigators posing as 14-year-old boys, police department spokesman Paul Browne said in a statement.
Costello, who joined the NYPD in 1990, was arrested Friday night and suspended without pay.
Police said he would be charged with attempted dissemination of sexual material to a minor and attempted endangering the welfare of a minor, among other charges.
