William Burse of Buffalo, a retired steelworker, died Monday in Grace Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. He was 70.
Born in Lackawanna, he attended Lackawanna schools and later earned his GED. He worked at Bethlehem Steel Corp. on the loading docks and at the coke ovens until the 1980s. Later, he worked in construction.
Mr. Burse was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church as a young man and later was a member of Walls Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where he sang in the gospel chorus and the men's choir.
Surviving are a daughter, Angela Amanda Singletary of Buffalo; two sisters, Patricia and Evelyn Lighten, both of Buffalo; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Thomas T. Edwards Funeral Home, 995 Genesee St.
