FALLS WOMAN TALKED OUT OF JUMPING FROM BRIDGE

Two city police officers talked a woman out of jumping from the Lockport Road Bridge off Hyde Park Boulevard on Thursday.

They also enjoyed some coffee with her while she smoked a cigarette after coming down from the bridge, said Officer Shawn Bosi.

About 3:30 p.m., Bosi said he and Officer Dan Bird responded to the bridge after originally being sent to the 1300 block of Ontario Avenue for a call of a suicidal female.

When the two approached the woman, whom Bosi would not identify, she got on the railing and threatened to jump if they got any closer, the officer said.

"Officer Bird started off talking to her to make her feel that she's worth something," Bosi said. "We both continued to talk to her, and we finally got her convinced."

The woman was being evaluated in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center on Thursday night, Bosi said.
