Catherine R. Maggiotto, an active Catholic laywoman, died Tuesday in her Buffalo home after a long illness. She was 84.
Born Catherine Giovinazzo in Buffalo, she was valedictorian of her graduating class at Grover Cleveland High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Buffalo State Teachers College.
She was president of the Canisius High School Mothers Guild and also had been active with the parent associations of Bishop Fallon High School, Nardin Academy and Mount St. Joseph Academy.
She served on the board of the Diocesan Home-School Association. She was a Eucharistic minister and lector at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church.
Her husband, Louis, died in 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Santa Dominguez of Buffalo and Marie M. Stevens of Snyder; five sons, Louis Jr. and John, both of Hastings-on-Hudson, Anthony of Buffalo, Rocco of New York City and Paul of Concord, N.H.; a brother, Peter Giovinazzo of Blasdell; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, 172 15th St. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
