A driver whose car went over an embankment at Hillside Homes apartments in Wellsville has been arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Wellsville police said Michael A. Wight, 32, of Genesee, Pa., drove off the road on a curve, dropped over an embankment and hit a tree at 3:12 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the initial call mobilized ambulance and rescue units because the caller claimed the driver was hurt and trapped in the vehicle.
Officers said they sent those crews back when they discovered Wight was neither injured nor trapped.
Hillside Homes is across South Brooklyn Avenue from the Wellsville campus of Alfred State College.
Police also charged Wight with making an unsafe movement. He is to appear Tuesday in Village Court.
