Joseph A. Jaroni, an Air Force veteran and a tax preparer, died Thursday in his East Amherst home of lung cancer. He was 59.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Depew High School and earned an associate's degree while serving in the Air Force.
He joined the Air Force in 1963 and served in Korea as a linguist and interpreter. He retired in 1983 with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Jaroni lived for several years in Glen Burnie, Md., where he worked for H&R Block before joining Beneficial Insurance Co. After returning to the Buffalo area in 1992, he worked in insurance with his cousins in the Depew Agency and continued working as a tax preparer.
He was formerly equipment manager for his son's wheelchair basketball team, the United Spinal Association Chariots.
His wife of 19 years, Joan Buwaj Jaroni, died in 1991.
Surviving are his son, Joseph A. Jr. of East Amherst, and a daughter, Jodie L. Robinson of East Amherst.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Amherst. Burial was in St. Augustine Cemetery, Lancaster.
