A wedding reception was disrupted Saturday when a man claiming to be an invited guest pulled an aluminum bat out of his trousers after members of the wedding party refused to let him enter, Amherst police said Monday.
The confrontation occurred at about 11:30 p.m. outside the Main-Transit Fire Department banquet hall on Main Street.
Adam S. James, 19, of Wheatfield, went back to his car to retrieve a wooden baseball bat but upon his return to the reception was greeted by Amherst police officers, Erie County sheriff's deputies and state troopers, police said.
James later told police he needed a weapon because he feared being beaten.
He was charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, according to police reports. He was not accused of swinging the bats, police emphasized.
