A Medina man was sentenced Monday to 1 1/2 to 3 years in prison for injuring an Orleans County sheriff's deputy in October 2003.
Ronald Pardner, 52, of East Shelby Road, was given the maximum sentence under a September plea agreement to a charge of attempted second-degreeassault.
Monday, he told Orleans County Judge James P. Punch the circumstances surrounding the incident aren't all as they seemed.
Police were responding to a call when they found Pardner in a Shelby cemetery. Pardner seemed to be intoxicated and had a cut on his face, but when police tried to speak with him, he tried to run away and fought with deputies, injuring the shoulder of Sgt. Ron Brett.
He admitted injuring Brett while trying to escape but said the people who contacted police lied to them to get him into trouble.
Punch told Pardner, who was convicted of a previous felony assault in the same court in 1996, that no matter what the circumstances were, in the end he struck a police officer and has to be punished.
Brett recovered from the injury and remains on duty.
