Lawyers on both sides of Atlanta Thrashers forward Dany Heatley's vehicular homicide case said Monday they are not close to agreeing on a plea deal that would keep his case from going before a jury. A trial tentatively is set for February.

The case stems from a car crash last year that killed Heatley's friend and teammate, Daniel Snyder.

In other hockey news, Rochester Amerks forward Thomas Vanek was named the AHL Player of the Week for recording four goals and three assists in four games. Included were consecutive three-point games in a home-and-home series with Binghamton, with each team winning in overtime. Vanek has 13 points in 19 games and is second in the AHL with six power play goals.
