Norm Milley swept a loose puck into an open net with 8:29 to play, lifting the Rochester Americans to a 4-3 American Hockey League victory over the St. John's Maple Leafs.

Sprinting down the slot off a three-on-two rush, Milley was alone at the top of the crease with an open net when the rebound of Michael Ryan's shot came to him.

The goal snapped a 3-3 tie, and Rochester (10-6-3-1) protected the lead the rest of the way.

Rookie winger Daniel Paille's first goal put Rochester ahead at 5:24 of the first period. After the Leafs (12-7-0-1) scored twice, Jason Pominville tied the score at 3:54 of the second period, then Jeff Jillson gave the Americans the lead at 16:02. Jillson also had two assists.
