A 27-year-old hunter was shot in the chest Saturday afternoon by another hunter in his party while hunting deer in woods in the Town of Middlebury.
Steven M. Gustin of Eldred, Pa., was struck in the chest, but the bullet did not appear to hit vital organs, state police in Wyoming County said. He was alert when medical personnel transported him to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, officials said.
Gustin was hunting with his grandfather, along with three friends from Middlebury. One of the hunters, not the grandfather, fired a shot at a deer, but hit Gustin about 200 yards away instead at 2:15 p.m., police said.
Charges are pending, officials said.
