Green budget or red budget, Erie County cannot stay afloat without making cuts. It's the only viable option. Many people have voiced concerns over cutting county jobs and services, most notably the loss of sheriff's deputies, probation officers, librarians, parks workers and clerical staff.
Many of us cannot even begin to imagine a county without services such as libraries. The truth is it is an unpleasant circumstance, but the point is there isn't any money. Many residents refuse to come to those terms. They just expect the libraries and such will remain open; somebody will step in. "We'll find the money somewhere." Unfortunately, they're living in a fantasy world. Erie County is depleted, and until there is another option, cuts are the only one.
