An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly firing a rifle in the direction of his mother at their West Valley home, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department said.
Jonathan E. Gernstl of Route 240 was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony.
Deputies said Gernstl discharged a .22-caliber rifle about 11:30 p.m. His mother was not injured.
Gernstl was arraigned in Ashford Town Court and was being held in the county jail after not posting $15,000 bail. He was scheduled to appear in court again Dec. 16.
