An East Ferry Street man was listed in critical condition and a 21-year-old woman is recovering Thursday after they were shot on the city's East Side on Wednesday night, Buffalo police said.
Andre B. Brown, 32, of East Ferry, suffered two gunshot wounds -- one in the neck, the other in his abdomen -- and was in Erie County Medical Center.
Marquita M. McKnight, of Elmer Avenue, was treated at Women and Children's Hospital for a gunshot to the right hand and left knee and released.
Detective Sgt. Philip Torre of the Major Crimes Unit said Thursday that both shootings occurred near the 1000 block of East Ferry Street at about 10:15 p.m., but police do not believe they are related.
Northeast District police said Brown and Alfonso Kimble Jr., 33, of Federal Avenue, were in a car parked outside Brown's home when a gunman fired numerous times at the vehicle, striking Brown. Kimble, who was uninjured, drove his passenger to the hospital, police said.
Within minutes of that shooting, McKnight was also struck by bullets when a gunman opened fire at East Ferry and Ernst Avenue, police said.
