Although the outcome of the election was disappointing, it is time for Democrats to stop wallowing in self-pity and face certain realities as to the future of the party. While Democrats stand for honorable ideals, they have allowed the Republicans to mischaracterize and define what and who they are.
If the party is to succeed, Democrats can no longer rely upon the failed campaign strategies of the past. It is time for a long-term strategy to change the public perception painted by the Republican machine to enable the party to compete in the "red" instead of merely defending the "blue." It is time to adopt fresh and innovative ideas in how to communicate the winning message.
The fight for the future of the party must begin today. It begins precinct by precinct, county by county and state by state. Ultimately, Democrats will win because they will have earned it. Remember -- no retreat, no surrender.
