The Town of Hamburg Recreation Department has been named a recipient of an Excellence in Youth Sports Award by the National Alliance for Youth Sports and Athletic Business magazine.

Five programs representing organizations across the country and at U.S. military installations worldwide were selected for the award, which includes prizes valued at $4,200.

"The Town of Hamburg has done an outstanding job with its youth sports programs," according to Fred Engh, founder and president of the alliance.

"It has demonstrated a strong commitment to the well-being of children and has embraced the importance of providing training to volunteer coaches, parents and youth league administrators."

The awards will be presented Nov. 12 in Orlando, Fla., by baseball great Cal Ripken Jr.
