I am writing in reply to the letter about the West Seneca Community Center conversion. The author stated that "at the request of the senior citizens" the Town Board is converting the space used as a community center to a fitness center for the seniors. This is absolutely not true. The West Seneca Senior Citizens Board of Directors was totally against this conversion. We originally made a request for an addition to the building to provide space for a fitness center because the building has no room for such a facility.
At a public hearing in April -- which the writer said was never held -- I and many board members and seniors voiced strong opposition to expanding into the community center. We were against displacing any group that was using the community center. We only agreed to this plan after we were informed by Town Board members that the community center was not being utilized to its maximum potential, that it would be converted into an exercise facility and that their decision was final.
