State Sen. Dale M. Volker, R-Depew, announced Monday that he has obtained $30,000 for the Wyoming County Tourist Promotion Agency in the 2004-05 state budget.
"The (agency) does a fantastic job in marketing our region," Volker said. "This has translated into roughly $1.6 million in sales taxes generated by tourism dollars that would have went elsewhere if not for their diligent work in promoting our region."
"Local officials at first were contemplating a 3 percent bed tax for Wyoming County to supplement funding for our tourist agency and the programs which we provide," said the agency's executive director, Diane Johnson-Jaeckel. "Instead, Sen. Volker insisted that he would be able to secure those funds that would be needed to keep our agency appropriately funded and operational."
