James E. Stern, 81, of Orchard Park, a retired journeyman tool and die maker, died unexpectedly Thursday in his home.
A native of Buffalo, he was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Forces.
Before beginning his career as a tool and die maker, he attended a vocational school in Buffalo. He retired from Moog Inc. as a supervisor in 1989.
An Orchard Park resident since 1955, Mr. Stern was a member of the Orchard Park Fire Company, the Orchard Park Senior Citizens and Nativity of Our Lord Church, and was a Meals on Wheels Volunteer. He was also a co-founder of the Moog Retired Men's Breakfast Group.
He enjoyed woodworking, golf, bowling, bocce, reading and spending time with friends and family.
His wife of 50 years, the former Rita M. "Gerry" Golombek, died in 1999. He was remarried to the former Adele Hadzicki.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, James M. of East Aurora; two daughters, Jacqueline Evans of East Aurora and Patricia C. of Glens Falls; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 36 Thorn Ave., Orchard Park, after prayers at 8:45 in F. E. Brown Sons Funeral Home, 6575 E. Quaker St., Orchard Park. Burial with military honors will be in Nativity of Our Lord Cemetery.
