OLAF FUB SEZ: According to South African Nobel Prize-winning author Nadine Gordimer, "The facts are always less than what really happened." . . .

ON THIS DAY -- In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address as he dedicated the national cemetery at the site of the Civil War battlefield in Pennsylvania. . . . In 1969, Apollo 12 astronauts Charles Conrad and Alan Bean made man's second landing on the moon. . . . In 1977, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat became the first Arab leader to visit Israel. . . . In 1997, Iowa seamstress Bobbi McCaughey gave birth to four boys and three girls -- only the second set of septuplets known to have been born alive. . . .

FLYNN'S -- It's only a parking lot today at the corner of Main and Burton streets. But not too far away at Virginia and Ellicott streets, the memory of the good times at Ray Flynn's Golden Dollar Bar will live on again as former regulars gather for a reunion at 8 p.m. Saturday in Ulrich's Tavern.

Jim Daley, Ulrich's owner, remembers: "We never considered Flynn's a business rival. He was more a brother in arms, and it should be fun to have that bunch back again." Daley pointed out that Tommy Flynn, the last owner of the watering hole that was a favorite of Courier-Express staffers, among others, will be there with Mrs. Flynn.

Continuing the Irish theme at this restaurant-bar with the German name and German food, Daley reports musical entertainment will be provided by the Black Thorn Quartet. . . .

HOLIDAY WREATHS are available through the Ten Lives Club, a cat rescue and adoption agency, for $20. Orders will be accepted until Wednesday and will be available for pickup at the Celebration of Trees event at the Hamburg Fairgrounds next Friday and Nov. 27.
