A 23-year-old Buffalo man has been arrested in the slayings of two brothers last week inside their West Side home, Buffalo police said today.
Josue D. Ortiz, of Germain Street, was arrested today in connection with the slayings of Nelson Camacho, 36, and Miguel Camacho, 25, who were gunned down Thursday night in their home at 879 Niagara St.
Ortiz has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder. He was arrested at Police Headquarters at about 2:15 a.m. by Detectives Mark R. Stambach and Patrick J. Judge of the Major Crimes Unit.
Police said the brothers were inside their downstairs apartment when Ortiz broke through their front door and used a large-caliber weapon to fire several shots at the men.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives have not released a motive in the killing. Co-workers, family and friends of the Camacho brothers said they were not killed because of any drug involvement, love triangle or illegal activity.
Miguel and Nelson Camacho had eight siblings. Nelson Camacho was a cook who at the Towne Restaurant, at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Allen Street.
His younger brother had been blind in one eye for most of his life and was on Supplemental Security Income.
