The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority has added another college to its growing university transit pass program. Buffalo State joins Canisius College and Bryant and Stratton in a prepaid fare agreement for unlimited use of public transit for students. The benefits for Buffalo State and the students are obvious: reduced congestion and lessened parking demand, and greater equity among students.
However, the benefits for the NFTA and the region are also significant, especially the NFTA's opportunity to build a constituency -- students who are future transit riders, employees who are likely to vote to support transit funding and forward-thinking administrators.
Congratulations to all the partners for pursuing a vision of public transit access that brings broad benefits to our community.
