Adelphia Communications Corp. founder John Rigas and his son Timothy, who were convicted in July of federal conspiracy and fraud charges, lost a bid for a new trial.
U.S. District Judge Leonard Sand denied a defense request to dismiss some charges and grant them a new trial. They had argued that federal prosecutors in Manhattan didn't present enough evidence and that Sand made errors during the trial.
Prosecutors accused the two Rigases and a second son, Michael, of looting Adelphia and lying about its finances. Jurors deadlocked on charges against Michael Rigas, who faces another trial.
