Shortly after the Civil War, a steamship called the Republic was bound for New Orleans with about $400,000 in gold and silver coins. That doesn't sound like much, but it would have been a big help to the Big Easy's struggling postwar economy. The boat sank in a storm, however, and the treasure was lost. In the new episode "Civil War Gold," marine explorers go looking for the booty, which could be worth more than $150 million today. (TVPG) 24340

Blazing Saddles

Mel Brooks' 1974 Western spoof is one of filmdom's funniest flicks from one of its funniest directors. Harvey Korman is at his best as Hedley Lamarr, the corrupt attorney general who wants to gain control of the soon-to-be-valuable land in the lawless town of Rock Ridge. His plan is to send in a black sheriff (Cleavon Little) to scare the racist populace away, but of course, it isn't that easy. Madeline Kahn and Gene Wilder also star. (TVPG) 667901

The West Wing

Josh (Bradley Whitford) causes a public-relations headache for the Bartlet administration by crashing a large sport-utility vehicle into a gas-electric hybrid car. This means Annabeth (Kristin Chenoweth), the new press secretary, will have to field some tough questions in her first appearance before the media, and Toby (Richard Schiff) isn't sure she's up to it. Martin Sheen also stars in "The Hubbert Peak." (TVPG) HDTV5272

Jack & Bobby

In "Lost Boys," the McCallisters get a surprise visit from Grace's (Christine Lahti) younger brother. He's a terrific guy, except for that little drug problem that lands him in jail during his visit. That's not the only bleak spot in the family's Thanksgiving: a friend of Jack's (Matt Long) committed suicide, and Jack blames himself. (TVPG) HDTV1434104

A real police terrorism drill in New York provides some of the backdrop in the episode "Rain." A robbery in Chinatown goes horribly awry, and one person is shot dead, two set afire and a fourth abducted. Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes star. HDTV8217, 81017

"Val Kilmer" profiles an actor who's played such diverse roles as rock star Jim Morrison, porn star John Holmes, Billy the Kid and even God -- well, the deity's voice anyway, in "The Prince of Egypt." Interviews with director Oliver Stone and fellow actors Kevin Spacey and Angelina Jolie paint a portrait of a man more interested in an acting challenge than star billing. (TVPG) 220494
