TEEN STRUCK BY VEHICLE WITH STUCK ACCELERATOR

A teenager helping fill holiday flower pots was run over, and two village storefronts were smashed when the accelerator stuck on the vehicle delivering holiday greens to volunteers Saturday.

Wellsville police say 67-year-old Robert Kosciewicz was backing up when his Jeep Cherokee jumped the curb and knocked 15-year-old Daniel Greene into the window of a crafts store.

Greene was filling pots outside village businesses with holiday florals for the Wellsville Beautification Committee. He was taken to Jones Memorial Hospital for stitches after crawling out from under the vehicle.

"Dan was mowed over by the Jeep and the Jeep kept going through the window," another student volunteer, John Valentine said. "He is a tough kid. If not, this will make him tough. He looked like he had a long gash on his back. It was very deep and his arm was bad."

Kosciewicz was bringing evergreen branches for the beautification. He also was treated and released at the hospital, police said. No charges were filed.
