Buccaneers safety Jermaine Phillips agreed to a four-year, $9 million contract extension with a $1 million signing bonus.

He was in the third year of a $1 million contract signed in 2002. He was to make $380,000 this season, but with the new deal he will earn $1.13 million in base salary. He will make $450,000 in 2005, $1.35 million in 2006, $1.75 million in 2007 and $2.05 million in 2008, according to the NFL Players Association.
