State Assemblyman David Koon and his wife, Suzanne, have brought the remains of their daughter back to upstate New York for reburial today on the 11th anniversary of her murder.

Originally buried in Maryland near her grandfather, Jennifer Koon's remains were cremated and her ashes will be placed in a manmade rock with a memorial plaque during a brief public ceremony at 10 a.m. today at White Haven Memorial Park.

"We wanted to have her closer to us," Koon said. His daughter's slaying promoted his involvement in politics. He has pushed legislation to create local 911 emergency systems that will let authorities pinpoint the location of callers.

An 18-year-old St. John Fisher College student, she was abducted in her car after using an ATM machine in Pittsford in 1993. She was raped and shot to death. Authorities couldn't find her even as she called frantically on her cell phone.

Willis Knight, later convicted of rape and murder, was sentenced to 37 1/2 years to life in prison.
