Raymond Pogorzelski Jr., a safety coordinator for the City of Dunkirk, died Monday in Brooks Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 45.
A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Mr. Pogorzelski graduated from Dunkirk High School. As a youth, he attained the Eagle Scout rank with the Boy Scouts.
A football coach for the Dunkirk Midget League, Mr. Pogorzelski enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres and his children's sporting events. He also enjoyed painting Civil War figurines.
He was a member of both St. Hyacinth and Holy Trinity Catholic churches.
Survivors, all of Dunkirk, include his wife, the former Brenda Odebralski; two sons, Ryan and Nathan; two daughters, Laken and Calan; his mother, Sandra; two sisters, Caryn Mirek and Lisa; and his grandmother, Helen Patti.
Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Friday in McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, 736 Central Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Hyacinth's Church, 293 Lake Shore Drive East. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
