BROTHERS, 13 AND 11, FACE CHARGES IN FRIEND'S DEATH

Two brothers who allegedly kicked the supports of a porch and caused a collapse that killed a 12-year-old friend have been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Kareem VanCleaf, 13, and Javon VanCleaf, 11, could get up to five years in a juvenile detention center. The juvenile charges were filed Tuesday.

Dwayne Gordon was killed Oct. 30 when the porch on the abandoned house gave way as the boys were kicking the posts, police said.

Columbus code enforcement officers inspected the porch in mid-October and found that the beams looked sturdy, but after the boy's death, inspectors discovered that anchors were not fastened into the concrete, officials said.
