SUGGESTIONS OFFERED FOR POSTING PROPERTY
LITTLE VALLEY -- Information on how to post private property to legally restrict it from hunters and other trespassers is available from the state Department of Environmental Conservation, Cattaraugus County Sheriff Dennis B. John reports.
It can be found on the department's Web site at www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dfwmr/posting.htm.
John notes that the information includes how big the signs should be (at least 11 by 11 inches), how far apart to post them (no more than 660 feet apart) and what must be included in their wording. Signs can be obtained from hardware and farm supply stores or from local printers.
Maximum penalty for trespassing on posted property is a fine of up to $250 and up to 15 days in jail. It is illegal to tear down posted signs.
