An Erie County sheriff's deputy on a bicycle was struck by a car Sunday outside Ralph Wilson Stadium.
"The deputy was struck from behind by a vehicle that was exiting a stadium drive after the Buffalo Bills game," the sheriff's office said in a statement. Deputy Carl Andolina was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Deputy Brad Hebeler, also on bike patrol, was riding next to Andolina but was not hit.
The driver of the car, Ashley Appleton, 23, of Buffalo, was driving without her headlights on at 5:40 p.m. when the accident occurred, according to deputies. She was arrested for driving while intoxicated but refused to take a test, deputies said. The investigation is continuing and other charges are pending.
