JAMES B. SMITH
APRIL 22, 1935 -- NOV. 6, 2004

James B. Smith, 69, a retired bowling lanes janitor, died Saturday in his Amherst home after a sudden illness.

The Buffalo native graduated from McKinley High School in 1953.

After working for several other bowling establishments in the area, he retired in 1997 after 20 years as a janitor at Sheridan Lanes, now the Sheridan Game Zone.

An Amherst resident since 1961, he was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and its Senior Citizens, Amherst Senior Citizens and the James Smith Society, a nationwide organization of people who share the name of founding father James Smith.

He also was an avid Buffalo Bill fans and enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bisons and Buffalo Sabres.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Benedict's Church, 1317 Eggert Road, Eggertsville. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
