Tops Markets and Wendt's Dairy have signed a four-year contract that continues a nearly 40-year relationship between them.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the contract ensures Wendt's will continue supplying milk to Tops supermarkets and Wilson Farms convenience stores.
A four-year deal is beneficial to the 180 farms that own the Niagara Milk Cooperative, of which Wendt's is a division, said James Miklinski, the cooperative's general manager. "The farms know they're going to have a home for their milk."
The cooperative's members stretch from Lake Ontario to the Pennsylvania border, he said.
Wendt's is also making upgrades in its packaging equipment in conjunction with the new deal. The machinery is more efficient and is equipped with new cleaning methods, Miklinski said.
Tops said the new deal will also benefit an additional 800 workers who support the dairy farm members.
