TITLE WINNERS PROVE WHO RULES THE SCHOOLS

Grand Island, Clarence and Fredonia earned Section VI titles on the girls soccer field, while Williamsville South freshman Kristina Arcury won the girls gymnastics all-around championship on a busy Saturday of high school playoff action.

Jessica Remmes scored three goals as Grand Island won its fifth straight sectional girls soccer title by beating Williamsville East, 3-1, in the Class A girls soccer championship at the West Seneca Soccer Complex.

Clarence beat Williamsville North for the Class AA title, 3-1, thanks in part to two goals from Dani Radlich.

Fredonia got a pair of goals from Hannah Swift as the Hillbillies won the school's first sectional championship in girls soccer with a 3-0 victory over Medina.

Arcury fought off a back injury to win the all-around competition at Kenmore West. Arcury's total of 37.150 points edged Lewiston-Porter's Deanna Favero by .35 points for the title. Hamburg's Danielle Hover finished third with 36.75 points.

In girls volleyball, Starpoint (Class A) and Eden (B) beat the Rochester-area champions of Section V to advance to the state final four.

In football, the Harvard Cup playoff picture was polished off on the final day of the regular season, which included Burgard's stunning, come-from-behind win over McKinley, 34-32. Burgard had trailed, 32-0.
